My Story

THIS IS MY STORY

We humans, we tell stories. We live stories.  We consume stories.  These stories, they change us, mold us, make us.  My story - at least lately - has an overarching theme of healing, recovery, of Sobriety.  Sobriety has become my super power.  It has given me an ability to hone in on aspects of my life which may bother or pain me then to be able as well as willing to dismantle the pain turning it into a tool for strength.

I have many stories.  It seems to me that each human is a Universe unto itself.  I feel as though I have had the good fortune to live at least three lives so far in my relatively short life.  This gives me an eager curiosity about what other lives i may live in the future…

Sobriety is not just abstinence from imbibing drugs or alcohol.  It can encompass moderation in other aspects of health, nutrition, sleep, emotions.  It can be related to dysfunctional dynamics like a need to exert control or worry or ruminate.  It means discipline in these areas while leaving room for gentle compassion.  It also means moving towards revealing and accepting the Truth, the reality of our stories, our selves, our feelings, our needs.  It means becoming aware of our boundaries and healthfully enforcing them.  It has to do with Harmony among the aspects of our selves and our lives: the Spiritual, the Mental, the Physical and incorporating this harmony into melody with our work, our relationships and our self care.

These feel like buzz words, slang entered as of late into the lexicon. But what i am pointing to and inviting you to is to ask yourself: what would it look like if i took care of my needs, desires, my aspirations, my body, my mind, my soul?  What keeps me from being brave enough to move towards that?

In my experience, we only move toward real change when the pain of same is greater than the pain of change.
